Missionaries Are That They Might Have Joy!

Water, Water, Everywhere.  And No.  I am not talking about baptisms.  Almost every night this week we have come home to find our floor covered in water backed up from our sink.  No I am not joking. After we cleaned up the first time we bought air freshener.  But hour house still smelled like sewage.  It was really gross!

Here is what our sink looked like!

Luckily nothing got ruined the first time it happened after that we knew not to leave anything on the floor.  All of the floor was completely wet except one little patch right by my chair.  And what was on that little patch of dry land?  The slippers that my mother had made me for Christmas this last year!  Mom, I don’t know what kind of magic knitting yarn you used to make those slippers but I thanks.

After this happened again, the sisters and I had worked out a system with rain boots, towels, mops, industrial squeegees and bucket we borrowed from the chapel. We got pretty good at cleaning up.

Yuck!

Yuck!

Every night, mop squeegee dry and then planning.  It was the grossest thing every.  Luckily nothing got destroyed, well maybe our sanity did, but besides that, our landlord has people looking at it today so we’ll see what they can do. 🙂

On Tuesday we had the wonderful surprise of ice-cream with fruit from elder Jimenez!  It was really good 🙂 and very calming after our sink had started filling up again when we were studying.

Thanks Elder Jimenez!

Another thing happened this week.  Sister Nielsen and I are currently the only missionaries in the Setubal 1 Zone.  We don’t know all of the details but we know that some elder went home this week and there are not enough elders here to keep elders in their area for the time being.  So the Elders left and here we are.  Thankfully, our Bishop has faith in us and keeps on saying that one set of sisters has the strength of ten elders. Thanks for your confidence Bishop!

Heavenly Father put someone in our path this week and it was really cool!  We had originally set up an appointment with a woman who called us about an hour before our scheduled appointment to say that she couldn’t make it but she would be going to church with us that Sunday.  As we hung up the phone, we were grateful that she was planning to make it to church.  Then literally two seconds after she hung, we get a call from the elders asking us to go to an appointment with a different woman who was really prepared to hear our message.  The appointment they had made was a half hour before our other meeting would have been.  We never could have made both of them.

At this point I was so stressed out over our exploding sink and I could tell that the spirit was not with me at all so I decided that while I was eating lunch I would read the scriptures to help me calm down and get the spirit back.  I prayed sang a hymn and popped open my scriptures to chapter 17 of Alma.  Everything was going good when I got to verses 9-10

9 And it came to pass that they journeyed many days in the wilderness, and they fasted much and prayed much that the Lord would grant unto them a portion of his spirit to go with them, and abide with them, that they might be an instrument in the hands of God to bring, if it were possible, their brethren, the Lamanites, to the knowledge of the truth, to the knowledge of the baseness of the traditions of their fathers, which were not correct.

10 And it came to pass that the Lord did visit them with his spirit, and said unto them: be comforted. And they were comforted.

And I knew that it was meant for me in that moment, I had gotten my spirit back and we went and taught her and everything went great.  She really has been prepared by the Lord!

That’s all I got this week!
