The Enabling Power Of The Atonement

Sister Smith and I got rained on quite a bit this week!  It’s a little bit frustrating when you have blue skies and then two seconds later that one rain cloud shows up out of nowhere and follows you all the way home leaving you soaking wet.  We did go without guarda chuvas *Umbrellas* on purpose one day.  But that was not a good call.

On Sunday, week we had the opportunity to hear the inspiring words of Elder Bednar.  It was amazing to hear from him again and just feel the power of his testimony as an Apostle of the Savior.  He talked about how we are all Saints as members of the church and that through the Atonement of Christ we can do all things.

Elder Bednar

He teaches that Atonement is not just for the sinners but for all of us in our everyday lives.  Through Christ’s Grace we can have the strength to move forward and do all things that He needs us to do.

As an example, he shared a story of when Sister Bednar was pregnant.  He said that she would get so sick.  They prayed to have the sickness relieved just a little.  But it didn’t get better, it got worse.  So they decided to change their strategy.  They started praying for Sis. Bednar that God would give her the strength to get through the sickness.  The Lord blessed them so that she was able to work beyond her capacity.  It was really cool to hear the story and also to know how we can better apply the Atonement in our lives.

Christ knows everything that we are going through, the good and the bad.  We can turn to him for anything that we have difficulties with.  I know this with all of my heart.  Like it says in Matthew 11:29-30

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

We can truly find rest in Christ and with his love and power we can be made whole and stronger than we could ever imagine.  Today we got to go see Castelo de São Jorge once again.  T’was fun!

That’s all I’ve got. Tchau!
